About the Book

"Netraroga Vignanam" written by Dr. K. Nishteswar & Dr. R. Vidyanath is the one of the subjects of B.A.M.S. curriculum as Salakya Tantra-Paper I, prescribed by C.C.I.M. New Delhi. Basically eye is a Neuro-biological organ structured for sensitivity to light. It is a specialized organ to receive the solar light reflected from the various animate and inanimate articles of the planet. That's what has been described in Vachaspatyam out of the five sensory organs it is the middle one and it provides Vishaya grahakatvam. It is necessitated to come into existence because of solar light. The introductory chapter contains the historical review from Vedic literature through Samhitas to Buddha and Jaina literature. The classification of eye diseases by Acharya Sushruta in Uttara Tantra into seventy six categories is well brought out. In this text Book many clinical photographs and tables are added to supplement the text. It may not be exaggeration to quote mat this is the first illustrated book on Ayurvedic Ophthalmology. In the chapter on examination of the eye along with routine clinical methods some diagnostic techniques are incorporated in brief. Most important clinical features of various diseases are highlighted in an explicit way. An interesting angle has been brought into focus by the authors in constitutionally basing eye disorders. Constitution based on doshic profiles is highly scientific in that the constitution reflects the biochemical status of a person either in health or disease. This can give us a correct finger printing of a person, which in turn helps us in selecting a suitable line of treatment.

In the annexure, important formulations of various treatises, Research profile, Herbs of Salakya Tantra formulations with their botanical terms, important essay questions, short questions, M.C.Q., Color Atlas etc. have been incorporated.

The authors have done an extreme exercise in balancing the rich ancient knowledge of Samhitas with those principles of modern ophthalmology. Hope that the learned scholars in Ayurveda, P.G students and all graduates will find this book as a very useful and will be A Good referral for their studies.
