About The Book

This novel, first published in 1877, recounts the different incidents in the life of Black Beauty, a horse. Describing many tales of cruelty and kindness that he met, it contains a Lesson related to the kindness, sympathy and understanding treatment of horses. Although not originally intended as a children's novel, it soon became a children's classic. With over 5O million copies sold, it is one of the best-selling Books of all time.


About the Author

Anna Sewell was an English novelist. Born on March 30, 1 820 in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, England, she got injured severely both of her ankles when she was fourteen. She was lame for the rest of her life and was unable to stand without a crutch or to walk for any length of time. For greater mobility, she used horse-drawn carriages, which contributed to her Love of horses. Sewell's only published work was Black Beauty which was the sixth bestseller in the English language. She died on April 25, 1878.
