About The Book

Indian standard code of practice IS-456 for the design of main and reinforced Concrete was revised in the year 2000 to incorporate durability criteria in the design. As a result of it many codal provisions have been changed. Hence there is need to train Engineering students in Designing reinforced cement concrete structures as per the latest code of IS -456. With his experience of more than 40 years in teaching, The Author has tried to bring out students and Teachers friendly book on the design of RCC structures as per IS-456: 2000.

RCC design is a vast subject. It is normally taught in two to three courses for civil engineering students. This book is for the first course in RCC Design and author is Writing another book ‘Advanced RCC Design’ to meet the requirement of further courses. This book deals with design Philosophy and design of various Structural Components of building. The design procedure is clearly explained and illustrated with several examples by presenting the Solutions step by step in details and with neat sketches showing reinforcement details.


About the Author

University of Roorkeetudied at BVB College of Engineering and Technology, Hubli for his BE (Civil) degree and graduated from Karnataka University, Dharwad in 1963, sharing first rank with another candidate. The same year he joined Karnataka Regional Engineering College, Surathkal (presently National Institute of Technology, Karnataka, Surathakal) as faculty member. He secured his ME degree in Structural engineering in 1967 from University of Roorkee (presently IIT, Roorkee) under Technical Teachers Training Programme and Ph.D. degree in 1977 from IIT, Delhi under Quality Improvement Programme.

He served NITK, Surathkal in various capacities like Head of Civil Engineering Department; Chairman, Central Computer Centre; Chairman, Centre for Continuing Education and Dean (Administration). In November 2001, he joined SDM College of Engineering and Technology, Dharwad as Head, Civil Engineering Department. Presently he is Vice Principal and Dean (Administration). He has published more than 50 technical papers in national and international journals and conferences.

He has already published 12 books. He was member of organizing/scientific committees of international seminars of International Association of Shells and Spatial Structures (IASS) held at Taeque (South Korea) in 1990, Tokyo (Japan) in 1993 and Taipei (Taiwan) in 1997. He is member of several Indian and international Professional bodies. He is chairman of Indian Concrete Institute, Karnataka, Hubli, Dharwad Centre.
