Preface
Most of the Indians are not conscious about mental health and dental health. The reasons may vary from person to person. Now it is hightime to assess our personality, and we must learn techniques to convert our stress into relaxation. Here is an exclusive and lucid way to experience it. The aim of this book is twofold. First, it sets out to illustrate the range and diversity of scientific hypnotism for personal and professional reasons; second, it provides a substantial body of case material for the students of Psycho-pathology. All the cases in the book are real life examples selected from my works, but the names and places are not real.
Hypnosis as a phenomenon is now becoming well documented and more readily accepted. Unfortunately it is still clouded in mystery as far as the public at large is concerned. This arises partly out of sheer ignorance of fake hypnotists who do not have any basic knowledge about the science of behaviour. The chapters in this book were selected so as to represent the major areas with which an amateur hypnotist will need to be familiar in order to make the most of his upcoming counselling involvement. The chapters on the history of hypnotism, and development are intended to provide perspective on the field. There are variety of chapters dealing with study of behaviour, diagnosis assessment and testing which will enable the reader to evaluate the case. It is also obvious that although the material in this book was prepared primarily for psychologists, amateur hypnotists, mental health professionals in other disciplines, as well as there who wish to practice self hypnotism to overcome day to day tensions, stress, fatigue and anxiety.
Hypnosis, whether it is self-hypnosis or heterohypnosis is not a panacea-a cure for all diseases. It is not a means of becoming superhuman or a miracle man. It is simply a method of reaching your mind and marshalling the hidden talents, which most of us fail to tap, thus preventing ourselves from attaining our full potential. Hypnosis will not enable you to do something that you can't do, it can however, allow you to go beyond what you normally do, because you tap your inner reserves which are there. Hypnosis is now being used by doctors, anaesthetists, dentists and other therapists to help, cure or relieve a wide range of illnesses, personality disorders, emotional and psychological conditions. Now in Western countries, hypnosis is being used to treat people suffering from psychosomatic disorders, fears, phobias, to help people give up smoking, alcohol and drugs, to overcome shyness, stammering, nail biting, inferiority complex, tensions, impotency, frigidity and so on.
Finally I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Sri Pisapati Venugopal, Sri R.R. Rao, Shri Lakshmi Narasimharao who are loving and competent people right from 'conceiving' to its 'delivery', as book publication is as stressful as giving birth to a child. I'd like to express gratitude to Ms. Kaveribai for patiently typing my zigzag manuscript and to Shri B.V. Satya Nagesh, a well known psychologist.
I wish to record my thanks to M/s Pustak Mahal whose support and suggestions were instrumental in presenting this book.
