About the Author

Gilani Kamran was born at Poonch in the British Indian State of Jammu and Kashmir on 24 Aug. 1926. He graduated in Science from Islamia College in 1945 and won the Iqbal Gold Medal for a poem there. He obtained Master's Degree in English literature in 1947 and after that he entered in teaching profession in 1948. In 1957 he graduated with Honours from Edinburgh University. His first composition was published in 1959, which was his experiment in the poetics of new verse in Urdu. He was awarded prizes for his literary works in 1965 and 1969. His other three collections of poems came in light in 1961, 1967 and 1976. He as a teacher, poet and writer worked a lot for the literature. His work on ideological content of writing formulated a new perspective for creative thinking in the people. He worked on the metaphysics of literary culture and has given a new direction to contemporary writing.
