About the Book

Since it first appeared in 1967, Training for Development has been widely regarded as the most comprehensive work in the field of training and development In the three decades since it was first published, however, the whole field of training has undergone a sea change Not only have there been improvements in training designs, methods, and materials, but training systems must now also address the issue of fitting their efforts into overall change strategies Hence, this completely revised version with a new title maps these changes in two parts, each of which is addressed to a different but related audience : (a) policy-makers and change managers, and (b) trainers, consultants, and principals. Rolf P. Lynton and Udai Pareek continue their collaboration drawing on their vast experience in the field to present examples from both their own experience and others' formulations, with the support of relevant readings.

Targeted at those charged with development overall, this the first part addresses developers, founders, and managers of training systems, policies and strategies The authors look at the new and wider concept of training in which strategic concerns and decisions about training have moved into the boardroom. They focus on four core issues which policy-makers and change managers must address in order to make training worth its cost-making training fit change strategies; outcome evaluation; organizational readiness and support for training : and ensuring A Good fit of training with organizational and wider cultures.

Lucidly written and well illustrated with exhibits and boxes, and supported by apposite readings from a wide range of sources, this Book is essential reading for those involved in training, human resource development, organizational and institutional development, organizational behavior, extension education and management.
