About the Author

Missionary, author and Bible teacher Dr. Alban Douglas was born on 21 November 1920 in Saskatchewan, Canada. He attended Briercrest Bible College, and then candidate school in Philadelphia where he was accepted by the China Inland Mission (now OMF International). In candidate school he met Anna Schmidt. They married in West China, and then spent the first 18 years of their married life under the Communists. Their first daughter, Margo Anne, was born, and died during that time.

In 1951 the couple were expelled from China; they returned to Canada where Dr. Douglas pastored churches in Strasbourg, Govan, and Rosetown in Saskatchewan and in Wetaskiwin, Alberta. Their son, Trevor Alexander (a RBMU missionary with his wife Norma Jean, in Lamut, Ifugao Province, Philippines) was born here.

The Douglas family sailed for the Philippines in 1954 and stayed until 1964. Heather Marie, their second daughter, was born in the Philippines. The Douglases enjoyed an extensive and varied ministry with the Chinese and Filipinos involving church planting, teaching at the Chinese Bible Institute of the Philippines, speaking at conferences, prison visitation, and counselling.

For health reasons, the family moved back to Canada where Dr. Douglas was invited to teach on missions and Old Testament at the Prairie Bible Institute in Alberta. Over the next years until he was 70, he taught hundreds of students and preached in many churches across Canada. During this time he earned a Master's degree from Grace Theological Seminary, Indiana, and was awarded the first doctorate from Briercrest Bible College. He was 76 when he died in March 1996, in Canada.
